Rip City is one of those unforgettable dahlias that stops you in your tracks — dark, dramatic, and effortlessly romantic. Its velvety petals unfold in rich tones of deep wine, garnet, and near-black plum, with a shadowy center that adds incredible depth and mood to the garden. Depending on the light, the blooms can read almost black, making it a standout choice for fall palettes and modern floral design.
This informal decorative variety produces medium “salad-plate” blooms on tall, vigorous plants that begin flowering early and continue steadily through the season. Long, strong stems make Rip City a designer favorite for cutting gardens, wedding work, and arrangements that lean toward moody elegance.
If you’re building a collection with depth, contrast, and a little bit of drama — Rip City is a must-grow staple.
