THE BLOOM EFFECT

Most of us have a flower story we’ve never said out loud.

The bouquet someone left on the porch. The garden you started that didn’t go particularly well. The flowers you bought just for you, on an ordinary Tuesday, because you refused to be found crying in the parking lot.

Flowers meet us at weddings, funerals, and so many moments in between, yet we rarely stop to ask why they have such an effect on us.  Join us for an evening devoted to that question.

The Bloom Effect brings together five people who have built their lives around flowers, farming, beauty, and the natural world. One of them is also pursuing a PhD in psychology and researching the effects flowers have on our well-being, which means she can help explain what the rest of us have always felt.

THE PROGRAMME

5:00 PM | Welcome

We will begin with a welcome cider and time to wander, settle in, and enjoy a charcuterie spread from Stroll Café in Portsmouth.

5:30-6:30 PM | What Blooms Between Us

A conversation about how flowers, farming, and working with the natural world can reshape a life.

We will hear from Pete Endres of Bird Dog Farm & Cidery, Indie Lee of Indie Lee Skincare, and Arianna Iappini of The Birch Arbor Gardens about the paths they have chosen and what continues to draw them back to their work.

6:30–6:45 PM | Intermission

Take a break and enjoy coffee, a sweet treat, or a drink from the cash bar.

6:45–7:45 PM | The Psychology of Flowers

A conversation with Hafsa Lewis, founder of Hafsa & Co. and The Psychology of Flowers. and Shannon Shipman of Fox Cottage Farm

Shannon has spent years growing dahlias without fully understanding why the work could feel so healing.

Hafsa studies that question through her doctoral work in psychology and through eight years of running her floral business on Nantucket. Her love of writing, helping people, and flowers eventually became Flower Therapy, her forthcoming book with Timber Press, arriving in spring 2028.

Together, Shannon and Hafsa will explore what happens when we grow flowers, arrange them, give them away, or simply allow ourselves to notice them, and why something so ordinary can affect us so deeply.

Shipping begins in April, once weather conditions are safe and there is no risk of tubers freezing in transit. Because we’re growing and shipping from New Hampshire, timing is guided by the season — ensuring your tubers arrive ready to grow, not rushed out too soon.

Local pickup is available one day only: Saturday, May 2nd, from 9:00 AM–2:00 PM.

Please choose local pickup only if you can commit to this date. Orders not picked up on May 2nd will be cancelled and refunded minus a 20% restocking fee. Orders will not be shipped. You will receive an email with the address the week before pickup.
